My Personal Journey: From Anxiety to Alignment

I’m here to share a deeply personal journey with you. It's a journey that has taken me from struggling with anxiety and medication to discovering potentially having ADHD, and finally finding alignment in my life. It's been both challenging and enlightening, and I hope that by sharing it, I can inspire others who may be going through similar experiences.

The Struggle with Anxiety and Medication

A few months ago, I started taking Cymbalta to help with my anxiety. This wasn't an easy decision for me. My anxiety had been manifesting differently in my 40s compared to my 20s, and my therapist suggested medication as a way to level up my foundation and operate from a baseline. I was hesitant at first, having had past experiences with medication. But I realized the importance of not choosing a permanent solution to a temporary problem.

During this time, I also had an evaluation with a psychiatrist who suggested that I may have a moderate level of ADHD. This was a revelation for me. ADHD is often difficult to diagnose in women, and this diagnosis explained a lot about my life and how I showed up in the world.

The Power of Self-Discovery

Ben shares how his self-discovery was sparked by a comment from his wife about him being different. This planted a seed in him to explore and analyze myself.

The Shift in Career and Life

Ben used to work for a billionaire family as an investment officer. The company grew immensely during his time there, yet despite the external success, he felt a disconnect and emptiness in his heart. This led him to question my path and ultimately make the decision to leave to pursue a different life. This decision was not easy! Hear more about his bravery and boldness.

The Role of Intuition in Personal Growth

One of the biggest lessons Ben learned during his transformation was the importance of intuition. He used to operate under the belief that "seeing is believing" and didn't understand the concept of intuition. Yet, as he went through his own personal growth and recalibration process, he learned the importance of sitting still and becoming quiet to listen to his intuition.

The Importance of Processing Emotions

Ben realized that discomfort is often a necessary part of the healing process and that avoiding it doesn't mean you're in the wrong place. See what he learned about opening up his internal alternator and allowing his emotions to flow. This initially led to a roller coaster of emotions but ultimately helped me activate his empathy and intuition.

Living in Alignment with Oneself

Today, Ben is living a life that’s in alignment with his true self. He no longer believes in "fake it till you make it," but rather "believe it until you achieve it." He’s now an entrepreneur, engaging in various businesses, coaching, and podcasting. He’s surrounded by empowering people and he’s living a life that’s true to himself. He’s grateful for every step of this journey.

Conclusion

I am grateful to all of you for engaging with my content and I’m here cheering you as you continue your personal journeys. Thank you for your support and I invite you to sign up for my weekly newsletter!

Until next time, aloha.

How to Rewrite Your Reality by Judy Tsuei

Transcript:

Judy Tsuei (00:00:02) - Welcome to the Saving Face podcast, where we're empowering mental and emotional health for Asian Americans and voices of color by breaking through taboo topics. Life may not always be pretty, but it is indeed beautiful. Make your story beautiful today. I have to tell you that the coaching that I'm now doing with women using neuro linguistic programming and my own special source of intuition and interviewing has been extremely profound. In one day I got multiple messages from my clients, sharing how remarkably different they were showing up in what were previously highly tense situations, how they felt so grounded, how they invited new career opportunities to come forward. And it was just really remarkable to see in how short amount of time so much transformation can happen. If you are looking for similar results in your own life, then I invite you to join my free seven day rewrite your reality e-course. You will be able to practice multiple techniques that I offer to my clients in depth and in real time when we're doing one on one sessions and you'll be able to start to create a new foundation for the reality you'd like to see.

Speaker 1 (00:01:21) - So if that's interesting to you, it's totally free. It takes less than ten minutes a day for you to read the insight and the teaching that I have, as well as to practice the exercise that I invite and offer to you. And then if you wanted to dive deeper, I created a live stream video each of those days so that you could go in and explore a little bit more on your own time. How to dive deeper into these principles so that you can create profound shifts in a key area of your life. And that's your career, your relationships, your family, your personal growth and development, your spirituality and your physical and emotional health. If that sounds good to you, go to wildheartedwords.com/reality and get started again. These are practices that you can do really quickly to take those micro steps and those incremental changes that though they may feel in the moment like a bit of work, like a bit of dedication, like a bit of time when you get to where you want to be and you turn around and look back, you are going to marvel at how quickly those changes came.

Speaker 1 (00:02:29) - Again, wild of words. Com forward slash reality. So I had an interesting thing just happened to me right now. A few months back, I started getting on Cymbalta, which is what I was taking when I had severe postpartum depression. And part of it was just not realizing how much anxiety that I was holding on inside because my anxiety didn't look the way that it did in my 20s, in my 20s. I couldn't cross the street without feeling like my heart was going to leap out of my chest. But now here I am in my mid 40s and the anxiety is different. A lot of ruminations, a lot of, you know, getting irritated at different things that seemingly weren't that big of a deal or just trying to manage everything, and then finding myself holding different parts of my body really tight and tense. So thankfully, working with my therapist, I was able to figure out like, okay, you know, she said, I understand that you don't necessarily want to take medication, but here's what I see for you.

Speaker 1 (00:03:30) - You have a couple of options, one of which is to slow down the pace of your life, which I don't think you're going to do. And the other is to have this supplement to help level up your foundation so that you're at least at a baseline from which you can operate everything else that you want in your life. And it doesn't feel like you have to scramble extra hard to even get to a baseline. And I think this is really important in lots of different conversations, especially in the diversity, equity and inclusion space in which so many of us need to just get to a solid foundation starting point and already there we are pretty exhausted for everything that we had to do to get there. So on top of that, to then, you know, be excellent at your career, be excellent in different facets of your life and in different relationships. That requires so much additional energy. And so it's no wonder that a lot of us feel depleted. A lot of us feel exhausted. And then with the global things that have been happening with Covid and natural disasters and just everything that's happening around the world, we are just constantly inundated by probably a sense of hopelessness or worry or, you know, seeming devastation at times of what's happening around the world.

Speaker 1 (00:04:44) - So all of that combined together, I talk with my therapist, and Cymbalta is what worked for me, which I had even been hesitant to take when I had suicidal ideation, when I was suffering from severe postpartum depression as my daughter was two years old and in my 20s, when I had that anxiety where I couldn't cross the street, the psychiatrist was really quick to prescribe medication then and put me on some sort of Zoloft or something like that. Prozac. And I was a zombie and I hated it and I didn't even know and correlate because my mind body connection was so far apart. Then I didn't realize that the medication was making me feel like that. So once I did make that connection, I no longer wanted to take it. And so I was very hesitant when I got on it. And the physician at the time said to me, I can help you with what it is that you're going through with a severe depression that you're experiencing right now. I can help you, but if you choose suicide, you are creating a permanent solution to a temporary problem.

Speaker 1 (00:05:45) - And I can't help you then. So please work with me. And please, we can work together to figure out the right dosage, to figure out the right medication. All of that we can work together on. But I cannot help you if you choose a permanent solution. And that really helped me when my brain was very foggy, when it wasn't clear when, as one of my favorite books, furiously Happy, the author had said, someone who suffered through multiple bouts of depression and autoimmune conditions when she said depression is such a fucked up disease that it makes you want to murder yourself. And so, you know, she was able to put into words those things that are so difficult to grasp when you're in it. And I think that that pervades into multiple facets of life of where when you're in it, it's so hard to see. It's kind of like with my career, I can do the work that I do in branding and marketing with my different clients over and over and over again. But when it comes to doing that same exact work for me, it's very challenging to ask about, you know, who am I serving? What am I doing? All of these things that I do so easily and intuitively with clients because I'm so in it that it's hard for me to see it objectively.

Speaker 1 (00:06:53) - All of that is to say, is that I in touching base about my medication. So in addition to my therapist, my psychologist, I have the psychiatrist who can prescribe the medication. And so we have regular touchpoints. She's in touch with my therapist, and I started mentioning these different things to her today. And she goes, Mm, Can we do a different evaluation and assessment on you? So she worked on me and asked me all these questions, asked me to rate it from a scale of 0 to 3, three being like very, very intense, zero being not at all and asking me all these questions that had me wondering, Are you in my brain? Are you me? Like, how do you know? These are the things that I think about the way that I operate in the world, You know, all of these interesting things, which is how I realized I had anxiety in. First place because the first time she did the evaluation about my anxiety and my low grade depression. I hadn't even realized that ways I was showing up in the world were expressions of anxiety until she asked me pointed questions to show me that what I was feeling was exactly that.

Speaker 1 (00:07:54) - So similarly it happened again. Today she's asking me all of these questions and by the end of it she said, This is not a 100% accurate diagnosis. But what I just took you through is pretty accurate. And what you demonstrate to me is that you have a moderate level of D ADHD, and that for women it's very difficult to diagnose because in young boys, as we had seen when this popularity of ADHD came about, there's a lot of external demonstrations of behavior. And with women it's usually internal and so it's less readily identifiable. But everything that she said to me, she asked me, you know, are you feeling these ways? Because this is how you learn how to cope? Or what was your natural state when you were younger? What's your natural state now? And a lot of the questions were so on point with exactly how I feel. I find it interesting as well because I just finished reading this memoir. It's called The Smallest Lights in the Universe. It's by Sarah Seager, and I just picked this up from the library.

Speaker 1 (00:09:02) - Just wanted an interesting read. I like wandering down all of the aisles in the library and just kind of picking whichever book seems intuitively interesting to me. So this wasn't in the normal new release, a section and whatnot, and I picked it out. It's about an astrophysicist who writes about losing her husband, raising her two boys, and aiming to discover exoplanets in the universe. And just she was at MIT. She won the MacArthur Genius grant. She was then featured in The New York Times, this person who I knew nothing about. And she parallels her journey through grief with the discovery of the vastness of the universe or universes and everything that's out there in space. And at the very end of the book, in the last several pages, she comes to this awareness that when The New York Times featured her, her very, very trusted colleague read the article, showed it to his wife. His wife is an autism specialist and said, oh, she she's on the spectrum, to which her colleague then emailed her and let her know what his wife had said and she responded back, No, thank you.

Speaker 1 (00:10:15) - Your wife is wrong. But then it planted a seed that allowed her to think about it, reflect upon it, explore it, and she decided to go get herself to analyze to see if this woman's potential diagnosis was actually accurate. And much to her surprise, it absolutely was. And she said that it felt like this aha moment of, Oh, that explains so much about my life, so much about the ways in which I've shown up in life and work so much about the ways that I've communicated, how people perceive me, how they perceive me, all of this. It's an incredibly well written book and so beautiful in so many ways from someone who is, by all accounts, a scientist who likely uses her left brain more than her right, but potentially not because everything that I've ever read in the spiritual and scientific space is if you are a scientist for long enough, you become a mystic. And so. It's just very interesting to me that I literally had just finished reading that book, then had this appointment scheduled for today.

Speaker 1 (00:11:19) - And as she was asking me all these questions, it felt like, Oh, could that.

Speaker 2 (00:11:25) - Be why.

Speaker 1 (00:11:26) - Could I have been struggling and feeling frustrated and wondering why I was built differently when I was built differently, and then figuring out how to now have permission to learn about how to show up in the world in a different way with greater knowledge. So this just happened, which means that I will be diving into this information more. And it leads me into today's podcast episode. Guest So this podcast episode is going to be great for you. If you've ever been curious about what is intuition, how do I tap into that? How do I explore myself if I know that where I am right now is nowhere close to where I want to be to, but I don't know where it is ultimately that I want to get to, to have shut down different parts of yourself and then to realize that you need to wake those parts back up in order to live a fulfilling whole life. What else I'll say is that my podcast guest is someone who used to manage the family office or different parts of the family office for the family that owns Panda Express.

Speaker 1 (00:12:33) - And you will hear how much money he helped to manage, how much he helped the this family work through investing in new opportunities. And, you know, I've always loved Panda Express, even though I've had people say, and you're Chinese and you love Panda Express, I'm like their orange chicken growing up was so delicious. So I think it's amazing that this is still a privately owned business and how they continue to grow. And then when they had so much abundance, what they chose to do with it. And so you can tune in to hear Benjamin Yi's journey from a very left brain career into this extremely spiritual career that he is now focused on. So he's a business and transformation coach, and his career has evolved from being a real estate consultant, investment officer for a family office where he invested over $1 billion. A serial entrepreneur, a husband, a father, an advisor and coach and overall student of life. He empowers heart centered entrepreneurs and creating real magic by integrating their physical, mental and spiritual well-being to synchronize their business with purpose driven lives.

Speaker 1 (00:13:47) - They seek to manifest. He also has a podcast. It's called Boom Vision, that he launched in 2021, and it's about health, wealth and the higher self. And if you want action steps, this is the wonderful bridge between the left and the right brain. And I'm excited for you to hear what Benjamin explores today. So I'm very excited for today's conversation because as you know, if you've been a listener to the show, it's rare that I have men on the show. I always think that I'm speaking to women. However, it's been brought to my attention recently that the stories that I share and the topics that I cover are not limited to just women alone, nor are they limited to Asian Americans that there are so many people that I've reached out to with different iterations of my book proposal and whatnot. And so many people share how much they can relate, even if they weren't raised in the traditional Asian tiger parenting household. There are still children of immigrants, adult children of immigrants, and people seeking to find their own path from what was the traditional role that we had before.

Speaker 1 (00:14:57) - Which is why I'm so excited to have been here. And and I'm laughing and smiling while I say that, because he just told me when I asked for the pronunciation of his last name, like of the French dessert, the beignet. So I would love for you to you know, today we're going to be talking about different topics organically. One of them is about voice and finding your voice and speaking up. One of them is about feeling. You know, I think a lot of us have gone through that experience of learning what is safe and unsafe to feel and how we can be more in our bodies in order to connect to a greater sense of grounding or knowing or intuition and even just finding your connections, your tribes as adults, as we continue to grow older, as we move through different life stages and phases. And I would love for you to share a bit about your journey from where you started in your career to where you are now because what you've where you began.

Speaker 3 (00:16:03) - And I love this because Panda Express, we're going to like mention that real quick.

Speaker 1 (00:16:07) - But there's that. And then also where you are now. And, you know, I it's a very different place than where you began. And yet it sounds to me like when I've spoken with you in previous conversations, it's so aligned with who you are now and it's just the right chapter for the story of your life, where you are now with your partner, with your kids, you know, the whole shebang. So I will turn it over to you.

Speaker 4 (00:16:40) - Thank you so much, Judy. And first of all, I'm so excited to be here. I know it's it's been some time in the making. And so and there's always a divine time for everything. So I just trust in the process that, you know, everything happens for a reason. And so I'm very honored and blessed to be here in terms of, gosh, where it began. Well, so maybe if I just take a step back, I was originally born in Taiwan and I came to the States when I was three.

Speaker 4 (00:17:10) - And what's funny is because I think you're also down in San Diego, right? Yeah, my first city. I only have like a vague recollection of this, but I actually stayed for maybe half a year in San Diego first before I moved up to LA with my with my family. But I moved in in states when I was three. I grew up in LA. I went to Saint Alma mater, so I went up to Berkeley Farm to Grad, and then shortly after I went to Cornell for grad school in real estate. And so when you're talking about where to begin my career, my first chapter of my life, my career is in hospitality consulting. And so I started off working at PricewaterhouseCoopers in the Hospitality and leisure practice and then moved from there to jonesing local hotels. But, you know, within that span of four years as a consultant, you essentially live out of a suitcase, right? So there's times where I might not even know where to time zone I'm in. But by for four years I was a hospitality consultant, which just means that I work with a lot of hotel management companies, real estate developers, fab, you know, outlets, things of that nature.

Speaker 4 (00:18:22) - And and it was a great experience in a sense that, you know, people are hiring you because they expect you to be an expert in a certain field and you kind of have to learn how to go to give them a really concise report and deliverable, right. Of, you know, here's this solution to the problem that you have or the analysis that you're looking for. And and what was interesting is there was a day before Christmas in 2008 at this time, I was at Jones La LaSalle, and I remember driving into downtown LA and there was this new song that was playing on Kiss FM, which was like, I hate this part right now by the Pussycat Pussycat Dolls, right? I was like, Oh, that's a catchy tune, right? But then my intuition was telling me. Oh, I'm going to get laid off. Right. And sure enough, I. I drove in and I got laid off that morning because my was telling me that. Right. And so that was a bit of a rude awakening because, you know, as you can recall back in of 2008, around 2009, and that's when we had that financial crisis and especially in real estate, that got hit really hard across all of the US.

Speaker 4 (00:19:35) - It was it was interesting times. And, you know, the funny thing is, is that when a door closes, if you're looking in the right direction, usually another one opens up. Just kind of have to keep your eye out. Right? And and I was very, very, very blessed to start my second chapter in my career when an opportunity came up to work for a family office. And so family office is just a fancy term for an investment team, usually for a high net worth individual. And in this case, since you're kind of alluded to to Panda Express, you know, I worked for a restaurant group, which is a restaurant group, the founders of Panda Express, which is privately owned. So they don't franchise. It's all their stores, right, except for, you know, airports and universities. But the family office, initially, the mandate was all the money they generated in a restaurant group would invest on their behalf. And so initially it was focusing on real estate.

Speaker 4 (00:20:34) - So if they already knew which location they want to build, well, rather than giving that money to a developer, want to just develop it themselves, right? So they had that well oiled machine. It was literally like a play out of McDonald's, right? It's like or, you know, might as well just owned a real estate that was already fairly well oiled. The the essence of of helping them deploy to capital was more how do we start diversifying their real estate holdings and owning retail centers That may mean not necessarily have Panda Express as a tenant or multifamily apartment complexes or maybe office buildings, things of that nature. And so initially my job, because being a consultant, but just given my background, I've underwritten all different types of asset classes, all, you know, different types of complexity of real estate deal. So that was my best fit of my experience paired up with that opportunity. Now what was very interesting is throughout the seven years I was there because of how much income they were generating and growing as a very fast brand.

Speaker 4 (00:21:35) - I mean, just to give you some context at that time, so I was there from call it 2009 to what would that be? That'd be like 2016, right? It was. It was about over 100 stores being developed or opened every calendar year. Oh, wow. So imagine having a store open every three and a half days. That was the velocity of how much they were opening. That was it was literally like towards the end of the hockey stick of that growth and there was still just growing very strong, Right. And so with that engine running well, we have a lot of capital to deploy from them because of how much income that has been netting out. And so initially it being real estate, but also because of how much money that money tree they're making it in a restaurant group, a lot of people would knock on doors saying, hey, what do you want to invest in this fund, this private equity fund, this direct deal, this startup, like it was a whole plethora of different alternative investments, you know, call it in a broad strokes of an umbrella.

Speaker 4 (00:22:35) - And so my role was not only working with the head of real estate on real estate acquisitions, but just because of my background. It kind of just fell on my desk. It's like, Hey, I have this pitch deck or heads. This thing can take a look at it. Give me your thoughts. I was like, okay. And so I kind of helped start to grow their alternative practice. So I was drinking out of two fire hoses and same time. Right. Immense, immense experience. There are really fantastic principles to work for and have so much to be thankful and so much gratitude towards them. Because not only did I get such a wealth of experience being with them, but also I met my wife there. There's so much to be thankful for. Right? But what's very interesting, Judy, is that in that second chapter in my career, right, I mean, in that seven years, we deployed well over $1 billion for them just within that span of seven years that I was there.

Speaker 4 (00:23:26) - Right in that time I met my wife, which happened to be worked at Pandora. She was in HR, right? I was in a family office who were different, different company under the same roof, so to speak. When we got married and when we had our first child. I remember in that first month of maternity leave, I was forced to turn off my BlackBerry and I had no incoming email coming in. So I was literally forced to unplug. And in that first month there's I think in Mandarin is called has its own machine, which is like the birth center right. It's really it's a blessing for the for the mothers to be able to heal from that birth right And so so we did find one that Ruby was was a part of. And I would the days that I would also sleep over with her one of the nights I remember it was like two weeks in when my son was born. I remember this where it was late at night. I was staring at the ceiling. My wife was already asleep and all of a sudden this vision came in and this vision I saw was.

Speaker 4 (00:24:31) - It was like a White House with a front line. Two kids were running around. My wife and I were we're just sitting there and everyone just seems to be happy. But as I was watching this movie play out. My heart was feeling empty. And then in my mind I'm like. What the fuck? What do I do with this? Right? Like, what's. Why is there such a disconnect with this future vision and our new vision of the future? Because at the time, we were still living in like, a one bedroom studio in Old Town Pasadena. I didn't have a house. We only had our first child. So. So I knew this was a vision of the future. But in what seems to be a very happy scene play out. I could not connect emotionally to that. And I was feeling empty and I didn't understand why. And it wasn't until I dug deeper into this that I realize, Oh wow, the path that I was on was created by society culture. Parents like this wasn't the path that my soul wanted to be on.

Speaker 4 (00:25:39) - Like if my intention in life was to work as an investment officer for a Forbes 500 billionaire family like this is it. There's absolutely no reason why I would leave this position and working for such a great family. But I came to this realization that, wow, this is this is probably someone else's dream, but this isn't the dream or the path that my soul wanted to to be on. But in coming to this realization, Judy, I'm like, what do I do with that? Like what? And so this was probably halfway through being there. And it wasn't until a few years later where I then took that leap of faith and like, okay, I was getting stronger signals where, you know, I think before my kids get older and before I feel like I'm, you know, have that golden handcuffs, so to speak. Right. Of of being in that path. I got to I got to break free from this and figure it out. What is the path I want to create? What is the life I want to live that my soul wanted to live and experience in this lifetime? And so and then leaving that chapter, that second chapter, that's when I would say right now, on my third chapter in my life, in this life of being an entrepreneur.

Speaker 4 (00:26:56) - And and it's led me to so many different experiences because in this current third chapter, I've have different businesses with different partners, but I've also had some inflection points that realize like, wait, just bring it back. What is it that my soul really wants? Right? Because, you know, one of the blessings in meeting with my wife and when we got married is that back then, if we had this conversation, Judy, and about like, you know, call it ten, 15 years ago, I was very left brained, very logic base. I was all about ones and zeros. My life was finances and real estate, right? Like, I you know, my family was Buddhist, but I wouldn't say I'm like a daily practitioner, but, you know, I was just 100% logic lived in my left brain. And and it wasn't until, you know, when we got married and before having kids, but my wife and I both had this session called Theater Healing. What is that? Right? What's energy work? What's that about? Right.

Speaker 4 (00:27:57) - What's Reiki healing? And when I had the experience of these different modalities, wow. It opened almost this can of worms of didn't realize how much emotions I was either suppressing or trapping or just not allowing to flow. And this third chapter being more integrated and allowing those energy to flow in conjunction with co-creating, you know, the life I truly want to live is kind of what led me to where I am today and the investments I do, the businesses I do, the coaching and the podcast, you know, all these creations that really came out really in the last three years, probably when the pandemic started.

Speaker 1 (00:28:43) - So I want to ask you about that because, you know, thinking about the people who are listening to this, not everyone will get a vision. I think a lot of people feel this misalignment between where they are now and ultimately where they would like to be, But there's not enough clarity. And I think we've heard as a general culture, like you have to know your why you have to pursue your why.

Speaker 1 (00:29:05) - And it's just an additional pressure on top of as you've shared right now. You've already gone through three major chapters, and that's not the end of it. There's likely going to be more chapters of your story. So I'm curious in terms of, you know, that awareness that you had that something was misaligned and then the bravery and the boldness that it takes to be able to start taking those steps in the direction of what it is that you want to create that, you know, some people won't have partners who are on board. Some people will, or they just don't have a partner at all. Some people, there's a lot of risk in doing that because like you said, you're at the golden handcuffs phase or you have children who are dependent upon you or, you know, the choices that we make. I always like to remember that when we make choices, that there's always the sister life that could have happened and the other path that you could have taken and that there is grief because there is a giving up of something of choosing this one thing.

Speaker 1 (00:30:05) - And so kind of giving ourselves space and grace there. And I'm curious, in your journey, what would you say are some of the key points that someone else may also either reframe and understanding that they currently have or help them broaden their perspective or take one of those micro steps in that direction. If they are similar to you in a place or their story is resonant with yours.

Speaker 4 (00:30:34) - Yeah. Well, that's a that's a good question, Judy. So so let's start with the first part. So you said the first part of the question is for those that feel misaligned with where they're currently at right now, what are some micro steps to be able to. Okay. So I let me say it by expressing kind of my own journey and how I got there, because it wasn't a straight line by any means. Right? You know, I think for me, I never understood the word intuition like I do today because in the world I used to live in and the paradigm I used to live in, it was very much operated by seeing is believing.

Speaker 4 (00:31:21) - I got to see the facts in order to believe it. I had to see from my own eyes in order to believe it. Right. Show me the data. Then I'll believe it. I lived very much in that world. I didn't understand If someone were to tell me, believing, seeing, I'd be like, What the fuck are you talking about? Right? That would be that would be my knee jerk reaction. I didn't understand it back then. As much as I understand it today and so part of my growth and unlocking that fog that I was in was first allowing. The emotions and energy to flow within me because like, you know, when I when I closed that second chapter to move on to my third, the first like 2 to 3 months, I was just like, I was just not not I wouldn't say it's shock, but I had to almost allow my nervous system to recalibrate. Because the velocity of how I was operating back then was almost like. I was always running a marathon mental marathon every day.

Speaker 4 (00:32:31) - And from stopping that cold turkey to figure out now what it's like, there's you got to allow that equilibrium to kind of reach before, you know, So so there's a process to that. And when I was fortunate enough then to have, you know, at least saved enough for me to kind of sort things out for that first. 6 to 12 months. Right. But that first couple of months was just for me. It was like recalibration. Just like just allow allow myself to breathe and figure things out and just be and be okay with it and not feel like I had to be someone right now. A lot of times I feel like I'm wasting time and that was my process. Right? But then but still, then I didn't understand what that word intuition meant as much, right? Because, like, the best way I could describe what intuition is, is, you know, I'm going to use the Tesla as an example, right? Because, you know, when I coach entrepreneurs, it's like your business is a car, but you are the driver, right? It's never about the car.

Speaker 4 (00:33:37) - It's always about the driver. Right. But our bodies is a car. Our minds a driver, right. It's never about the car. Everyone is focused on how to get to six, seven, eight figures, whatever it is. And it's like, I want more horsepower, I want more better speed. But it's like, what? They don't get is, hey, that £10,000 baggage limiting belief you have in a trunk, if you upgrade from a Camry to a Ferrari, guess what? You're going to be lugging that luggage to your next cart anyways, whether you like it or not, Right? So by virtue of letting go some limiting beliefs, you by virtue will go faster. That's never the issue. It's just, are you driving in the right car? Are you going in the right direction? And do you understand the full functionality of what this vehicle is telling you? And so, you know, the old paradigm, using the car analogy to to explain that further. It's like you have your speedometer, you have, you know, the gas pedal, right? You can go forward.

Speaker 4 (00:34:36) - You could park in reverse, but you have this dashboard and all it has is just like a basic radio have FM. I think I have a GPS system. I don't know. But then there's sometimes these blinking lights, like what's going on, right? Like. At the time being the left brain. Like I didn't understand. Hey, sometimes my body is vibing. What the hell is that? Dismiss, right? It's like an orange blinking light. I don't know what it is. I don't have time to, like, open to manual, so I'm not going to figure out what that means. But something's telling me something, and I choose to ignore it. Well, it doesn't go away, right? And so for me, it's like, okay, little by little. Oh. Wow. I have to understand where I want to go. And if I do, then my intuition will help guide me. Like another way of calling intuition is I call it a soul. It's your internal guidance system that's telling you.

Speaker 4 (00:35:30) - Do you keep going. You need to turn right. Right. And and it's very different from your inner voice. That might be. Coming from a place of fear, of anger, of ego. Right? Like the inner voice that we make. Those two distinction is that you might have the inner critic and and it's like telling you that's not you. Or that's like, you know, why even give it a try? That voice is typically an output of all the programming you have in your subconscious, right? I call it on my show. I call it SOS Subconscious Operating System. It's all the programs that you have in there. And usually you get those downloads in the first seven years of your lives, right? Because when you're first born, like you're just getting a lot of just input input, you just want to installation of different programs. But it might be views and beliefs that your parents might have held or your generation might have held. That's just them. But it's not you. But it's right.

Speaker 4 (00:36:30) - You know, that program is writing in in back of your mind. And so. Going back to intuition, it's like, okay, how do I allow my intuition to, in its own way, signal to me? Should I go straight or should I turn right? And intuition. It's different for everyone. Some people might actually have visions. Some people might actually hear auditory in a different tone of voice. Some people might feel things in their body. What works for me will not be the same for you because everyone's taking a different test, right? And so I just wanted to make that distinction because you just have to be able to sit still and quiet to be able to start learning. Well, what is the way that my intuition, my soul is telling me to go? Because if I can at least open up that awareness of that new function in my dashboard, then as I'm figuring things out of the direction I want to go in, things I have better clarity because it's not so convoluted what's going on internally in that in your vehicle?

Speaker 1 (00:37:37) - I love the way that you're describing it because I don't think that we've ever had anybody on the show describe intuition in that way or differentiate between inner voice and especially for you coming from such a left brain, you know, life before it's such a I feel like a lot of us just need the words to be able to put things and for our brains to understand.

Speaker 1 (00:37:59) - And when you said the journey that you've taken isn't a straight line, I'm reading this book right now called The Slight Edge, and it's reminding you that everything in nature, there is no straight line, everything curves. And so it's either going to curb up towards success or it's going to curve towards failure. And the ways that that happens are from the micro movements, the micro steps, the small choices that you make, because greatness is in the moment of decision. And in this present moment we all have choices and it's moving you towards responsibility versus being at the effect side of the equation. So in the NLP work that I do, it's saying that you're at cause. But I think the reminder is, is that so much of what happens in our lives isn't because of us. We didn't create there. There are things that we do are the effects of our actions, but there's also just life and life just happens. And I think we all, because of the limiting beliefs, because of whatever cultural intergenerational things that we've carried, we make it mean something about ourselves.

Speaker 1 (00:38:57) - And so I think having that reminder that unless you clean that limiting belief and whatever is weighing you down, all the baggage that we start to become identified with, it won't matter if you get a nicer and nicer exterior, the interior will continually feel a bit misaligned. And so doing that work really helps to shift that. And I think that one of the things that we've mentioned is coming from the cultures that we've come from and. In the work that we do in NLP, there are different timeline techniques that I do and I ask like if you're on conscious mind, where to know was this problem? Did it start in this lifetime? Did it start at birth? Did it start in the womb? Did it start in previous lifetimes? Did it start intergenerational? Which may sound like a very woowoo thing to do, but science is now demonstrated how we carry that legacy in our cells and in our bodies, and also because we have choice and free will, that epigenetics, we can change the stories that we're carrying and that we're telling.

Speaker 1 (00:39:59) - So whether or not you consciously are aware of it, unconsciously, there's so much that we have that we can work through. And I think learning how to sift and sort and pay attention to the hazards and what I like you saying is that you had to get quiet and you had to get to a place where you had that space to explore and to even just in the very beginning, recalibrate your nervous system to allow for these emotions to come up. One of the things that we mentioned in the introduction was feelings and how I've realized this is both a blend of nature and nurture. But I love learning. It's such a great thing. And anybody will tell you it's almost like I have this like compulsive need to learn because in some degree that learning helped me feel safe. And to be in your body, to be in this experience, to be fully associated with it, can feel risky for anybody who's gone through any sort of trauma or any sort of life experiences. And so with what you were saying about feelings and like having that switch back on, can you share a little bit about that that might be valuable for someone else? Also, like I think because also we learn discomfort.

Speaker 1 (00:41:17) - We don't want to be in discomfort. And yet discomfort is sometimes part of the essential process that in order for you to feel and know what you're feeling and connect to this these other parts of you, that discomfort doesn't mean you're in a wrong place or doing something wrong. Kind of like that differentiation between, as you mentioned, the inner voice and the inner critic. Yeah, intuition.

Speaker 4 (00:41:39) - So okay, great question, Judy. So let me describe a little answer to that in a way. And I go much more in depth in this in my episode for a vision which is on intuition. But so I came this download and this concept came to me. Part of is because I'm a huge Back to the Future fan, I coined this phrase of internal alternator, right? Because not the accelerator. The flux capacitor was already probably trademarked, so I couldn't use that, but I called it the internal alternator. Right? And what I mean by this is that. Okay, so let me let me share Albert Einstein quote, which is that energy cannot be created or destroyed.

Speaker 4 (00:42:17) - It can only change from one form to another. Right. And so if you think about what a classic alternator does in a car, in a traditional sense, is that it takes the mechanical energy. To convert into electrical energy, Right? So if you're ever experienced back in the days where the car battery died and when you get a jumpstart and my parents back back then was telling me like, oh, just drive around a couple times and it'll be fine. It's like, why? Why is that? Well, it's because once you jumpstart it, when you drive it around and you create that mechanical energy to your alternator at work will convert it to electric energy. It transform the energy into electric so then powers up your car battery. So the very crucial piece in a car, right? And so how I repurpose this word in calling what's the internal alternator? Is that okay? Well the i8 internal alternator for our human body is essentially when you are feeling an emotion, if you don't feel through it, it will be stored in one of three places either, you know, even though you might think you're burying it, either it'll be stored in your mind, your conscious mind, it'll get stored in your subconscious, or it could store somewhere in your body.

Speaker 4 (00:43:37) - Right. And. All three of those probably in that same order is in terms of lowest to highest severity of it. Right. Because, you know, in your mind, just occupying a lot of mind space, but in your subconscious, will, you know, 95% of our life is run by our subconscious, right? And then if it is storing your body, well, you don't want physical ailments and certain things to manifest, right? So this is if you don't address and allow the energy to just be and flow and feel through it. I don't understand that before. Right. And this is this is actually diving into a lot of like Dr. Bruce Lipton's work. And you know, like there's there's there's so much into that that they're experts of it but but why I'm bringing it back to you know how is it relevant to intuition is that I essentially through the trauma I experienced in middle school I. You know, long story short, something happened where, you know, I was very hurt.

Speaker 4 (00:44:34) - And I decided at that point being a gosh was probably like a sixth or seventh grader. I said, you know what? I will never let another female hurt like me like that again. So I essentially switched my internal alternator off. So for a good part of my life, when it comes to relationships, it's like I didn't allow myself where if I felt there was, you know, potentially emotional danger or I might get hurt feelings wise with, you know, with the partner that I'm with, then I'll just turn the switch off. And so I won't feel so I didn't allow my emotions to flow. And I felt like that was just a defense mechanism to protect myself. But I'm not it doesn't just go away. It's whether I want to admit it or not. It's being stored somewhere. And the way I understood and allowed to open up my internal alternator is when that first theta healing I had because I remember clearly, like, you know. The personnel was facilitating. Jonathan Liu He he was he was facilitating the healing for me.

Speaker 4 (00:45:39) - But then the first thing he said in a session was like, Oh my God, he just felt so sad. Like he was starting to cry. And I was like, What, are you okay? Because I wasn't feeling anything. He says, No, I just I just feel a lot of sadness and it just seems like trapped sadness. And and I didn't understand that. And so after going through the session, I remember like, maybe a couple of days after that. All of a sudden I'm watching like a commercial and I just start bawling and I never cry, right? I rarely cried at movies because I turned that off. Right? But something of that theater energy work opened something. And now it's like, you know, my wife used to cry at Pixar movies and I was just stone cold. And now it's literally reverse opposite now. Like it could be just some commercial, it could be some scene. Like I just I allow my feelings to just go, just to feel through because I don't want to hold any baggage, unnecessary baggage in or not, you know that.

Speaker 4 (00:46:39) - But but it was it was a process, Judy, because that first month. I was a fucking hot mess. Like, I was like, What's going on? It's like all the emotions just kept flowing and I'm just, like, crying. I'm like, I can't stop this. What? It's because it's like, you know, breaking down to Damn, There was so much emotion that was just trapped that I just it just had to just had it had some kind of release and then allow itself to recalibrate. But it was a very roller coaster of a ride when I first allowed that emotions to flow. But in doing so, Judy, in doing so well, I didn't know at the time, which I do know now, is I allowed my aspect of my dashboard, of empathy, of feeling energy to actually finally activate there. No, I had it before. Crazy stuff like. Okay so. So you know. Story have to share with my wife was first pregnant. You know how like when a mother's pregnant sometimes they have heightened senses, right? Either smell or taste or something.

Speaker 4 (00:47:46) - Right. Or they might have cravings for food. Right. Okay. What no one tells you is that sometimes the husbands will feel that, too. And what I mean by that is, I remember when my wife was pregnant with our son or our first child in that time, like there was I was still a panda. Right? So I'll still incorporate. And remember at the time was sitting next to my coworker Janet. And and that day, I don't know what happened, but it just felt like I never I don't usually get migraine headaches, but I just felt like it felt like a migraine headache. And it was very specific. It was a hard pressure on my right temple and then this spiky feeling as if like I'm being stabbed by tiny needles in the back, left on my head, Like it was just a really painful headache. I was feeling. I was like, What is this like? It just felt weird. So I got up, I went to the restroom, but once I got out of my work area, it was gone.

Speaker 4 (00:48:41) - What? So then I'm going. I'm going to the bathroom. Right? Okay. Then I wash my hands. I come back and right when I get back to the area, came back again. That's right. And then I looked over and Janet's usually a very talkative, but she was very quiet that day. Right. So I remember looking over and I was like, Janet, are you feeling a headache? And I was describing a headache, right? And I could see her eyes open, like, Wait, how do you know? And she's she's probably, you know, I want to say maybe ten feet away from me. So it wasn't I mean, it wasn't like right next to me, but it was you know, there was I'll you know, but I was like, Janet, I don't know how you're even operating. You need to go home. And I was like, I'm picking up whatever you're feeling. Are you safe to drive? And if so, please go home, because I can't I can't operate like this.

Speaker 4 (00:49:27) - Right? She was like, well, okay. So then, you know, she she was okay. She packed up and once she left and went away and but this is the thing. This is the micro step I took for myself because I allowed myself to Permission and Grace to start feeling. And that opened up the channels for energy to flow. Which then led me the possibility to start understanding how is my intuition wanting to communicate with me. So I want to just share that.

Speaker 1 (00:49:58) - I was going to ask you because I think that for a lot of us, because it's all unknown, it helps to hear what the payoff is and like how your life is now and how it feels now to be able to live in this space rather than the way it was before. Because so many of us are trained that like, I'm going to muscle my way through this, I'm going to figure this out. I'm going to use my intellectual brain. So I'd love to hear. What would you say are some of the key highlights of how your life has transformed now that you're aligned and living in this space? What are some of the benefits that people you know and even your clients like? What have they experienced in terms of shifts that make everything feel more fulfilling, more contented?

Speaker 5 (00:50:42) - Yeah.

Speaker 5 (00:50:43) - Yeah.

Speaker 4 (00:50:44) - Wow. There's trying to see where we can how much I can share with that. So let me see. So what? How else am I, like, changed? Okay, so a couple of key points. One is I now live in a world where believing seen it's no longer seeing is believing. That's number one. And and to give some context to that, you know, like you touched on this earlier, it's like we live in this culture of hustle and grind and have a love hate relationship with that word because it's like just, dude, you do grind it out and you'll eventually get there with enough hard work, right? And for some folks, that process can work for them. I just. Right now, for me and my point of my life, it's like I made a conscious decision. I no longer want to swim ten miles in a wrong direction. I'd rather swim one step in the right direction because once you start having kids, it's like, man, my attention span for patience.

Speaker 4 (00:51:46) - Just shorten. You know? I wasn't like that before pre kid, but now that I have kids, it's just very different right? And so I made that modification where now for me I have a better understanding that believing is saying so rather than saying fake it til you make it. Because I hate that it's not fake it til you make it because it just feels fake, right? Christo From the Future. I remember listening to one of the podcast where he was interviewed and I loved the way he phrased it. Instead of faking until you make it, believe it until you achieve it. Believe it until you achieve it. And part of how I do that is understanding. Everything is energy. I didn't get it. Everything's energy. We're energy. Money is energy. Now we can dive into to that rabbit hole. Yeah, for sure. And it's. And this is. This is the part that eventually want to help how I help my clients. But to get there, I got to give them the building blocks.

Speaker 4 (00:52:45) - Right. And that's part of the imagination to voice intuition. What you see, what you hear, what you feel internally. Create your inner world that gets amplified to your outer reality. Once you understand those building blocks, once you start allowing to feel, allowing to strengthen your intuition, then you're going to be able to sense and vet things out in a very different way and what you allow. Because then once you have that as a foundation, I could then start teaching, hey, rather than chasing your dream, how do you attract that reality into your life? It's a different push and pull. It's a very different push and pull because once you understand how energy flows, I'm no longer chasing things. I feel like I take me ten years to get there, but if I am the right vibration, then guess what? I can collapse that reality and bring it to me with the right people. With the right opportunity. Right.

Speaker 6 (00:53:39) - Partners? Yeah.

Speaker 1 (00:53:41) - I'm so happy that you mentioned Chris Doerr. For anybody who doesn't follow him, he's got a bunch of YouTube videos.

Speaker 1 (00:53:47) - You can follow him on LinkedIn. He actually has like an e-book. You can get called a pocket full of well, dough do. And I I've never liked that saying figure till you make it either. So I love that you know the shifting that believing until you believe.

Speaker 4 (00:54:04) - It until you achieve it. Yeah that was Christo's quote. That's not my quote.

Speaker 1 (00:54:07) - That's Krista. And so I highly recommend anybody to follow him. He's really eloquent in how he describes, like, human nature, the way that we think He's a very successful entrepreneur and designer and creative thinker. And I love everything that he's ever shared. And he truly has that energy of wanting to empower other people and to really value people's creative talents as much as people value left brain talent. So thank you for suggesting that. Yeah, everything that you shared is so actionable and so valuable, and I'm very, very grateful for it. We could definitely talk for so many hours. I want to ask you the question that I ask all of my guests, which is if you had to say Fuck saving face about something, what would you say fuck saving face about?

Speaker 4 (00:54:54) - Oh, I would say fuck saving face to living someone else's life.

Speaker 4 (00:55:01) - And what I mean by that is it takes the courage and grace and space for you to authentically feel. And. No. Okay. I do want to live my life in a certain path. And with that realization, then how can you empower yourself to be in the right environment? So I call it the soil, water and sun. The soil is the environment that you're rooted in. Are you surround yourself with people that is empowering you or are you surround yourself with people that are depleting your energy? The soil you're rooted in, the people you hang out with has really big ramifications because you could do all the inner work, you know, that you can do to grow. But if you want to go one direction, but then the environment is pushing another direction, then they are always at odds with each other. So your soil really matters, right? The water. Are you watering your mind on a daily basis? Are you doing things to nourish your mind, body and spirit in such a way that's allowing yourself the right nutrients for you to grow in all senses of it, Right.

Speaker 4 (00:56:18) - And the sun is are you allowing yourself to feel the sun rays of what brings you joy? Because we're we're not here on earth to pay bills, right? Like if you live in a paradigm, once I achieve X, then I'll be happy. That's a recursive loop. Write in the Excel terms, that's error. You have a recursive loop, right? Whether you want to believe it or not, whether it's a million, 1000 million, billion, it doesn't matter. You're going to be in a recursive loop. So to break from it is wait. What brings me joy now? To be authentic, to own that, to know that and then start doing that little by little. Because when you're in the higher vibration of joy and love, this magical thing happens where you start attracting. Things into your life.

Speaker 1 (00:57:15) - I love that you said soil, water and sun, because I think so many of us have probably heard how impactful our environment is. There's that stat of like, you're the compilation of all these people that you hang out with.

Speaker 1 (00:57:25) - The other way that it can be said is that if even if you do all of this work and you continue to put yourself in those situations, then you're telling your unconscious mind a whole different story. You're continuing exactly your unconscious mind. Nope, I don't. All this work. Sure, sure, sure. Actually, what I truly believe is this. And that's not going to. And all of us, I think anybody who's been on this path has had to make really difficult decisions that involved a lot of grief and a lot of giving up things that we thought we were going to have in order to step into something else. And it doesn't even mean that that grief is all gone. You know, grief isn't ever kind of like evolving energy. And so giving ourselves that space and grace like you talked about in the sun, just celebrating those moments is so important and savoring the moments like that. As you said, as my therapist told me today, what I'd really love for you to do is I would love for you to go lay in a hammock and just experience it with your five senses.

Speaker 1 (00:58:30) - And that's what I would really love for you to do, because that is where we start to pocket the joy and, you know, pocket the love and then, as you said, increase and amplify that in our lives as that energy continues to attract more. Yeah. So now where can people find you if they want to follow up with you and listen to your podcasts and all that good stuff?

Speaker 4 (00:58:52) - Yeah, Thank you. Thank you for asking, Judy. So there are several ways that people can reach me. I have my website, which is Benjamin, so W-w-what Benjamin? I also have an Instagram handle at Benjamin Yea, and my podcast is called Boom Vision Bomb. And then the second word is Vision Boom Vision, and that's available in all podcast directories. The one recommendation I would say is regarding that soil part, because you know, in this change and transformation that you're looking to get alignment with, it's it's really helpful when you have the right resources and the right environment soil around you. And so how do you build more meaningful impact and network of people to surround yourself with? My episode 23 Networking secret to building new and impactful relationships that happen to be my most downloaded episode last year.

Speaker 4 (00:59:54) - And, you know, I was like, All right, well, you're telling me something. And so I know you didn't have enough time to get into in this episode, but I really encourage you if there's something to resonate in today's episode, to listen to that, because I share with you the exact framework of what I've learned from my early mentor and what I've done and just who it is. It's just part of me right now in terms of how I operate and build relationships. And so I think that can be one another micro step someone can take in creating this soil for themselves.

Speaker 1 (01:00:23) - Thank you so much for sharing that. Yes, please, everybody. You know, if it speaks to you, if it aligns to you, I'm grateful that you're putting out content and that people can continue to deepen their own journey. Thank you so much for your time today, and I'm excited to bring this out into the world.

Speaker 4 (01:00:40) - Thank you, Jody. Yeah, and I'll say too, if you have any questions, honestly, if you just text me on DM on Instagram, you have any questions, I'm happy to just answer whatever you can do.

Speaker 4 (01:00:48) - If I can help you and give you that quick win. So thank you so much for your time. Jody. It's a pleasure being here today.

Speaker 6 (01:00:53) - Thank you.
