When the work you're doing is working.

We were sitting in the car on the way to lunch and one of my closest friends asked:

"What are you doing differently? It seems like... you're much calmer. Not always trying to do all the things."

This woman has known me since my daughter was 2 years old. Over the last eight years, she's watched me go through:

  • 4 moves (one of those on a road trip across the country, the other internationally and back)

  • A divorce

  • Debt — and becoming free of it

  • Launching a podcast

  • Publishing a book

  • Raising a successful Kickstarter

  • Building my company to multi-six-figures and hiring a team

Over that same time, I've watched her go through:

  • Buying & selling a house (and moving multiple times, too)

  • The loss of close relatives

  • A divorce

  • Becoming my client twice over

  • Winning numerous awards

And, we've visited each other in our respective states and taken trips to different countries. All of this is to say that this woman has seen me through all the ups and downs of life, just as I've done with her.

To hear her say, "You've changed — what have you been doing differently?" meant the world to me.

Because this is a woman who knows my true essence. We joke that we're life partners and we also mean it. We can look at each other, say one word, and know the entire dictionary of meaning behind it, even if it's a topic we've never brought up before with one another. We are completely different in so many respects and somehow, cut from the same weird cloth that no one else has ever heard of.

In the last few months, my life has shifted substantially.

Though huge, these changes are also completely subtle in ways I know are precisely what I need to exponentially scale in consciousness, revenue, and parenting.

I've:

  • Been selected as an Entrepreneurs' Organization Accelerator member to scale my business to $2M in revenue.

  • Been selected as a business to be highlighted by the Asian Business Association.

  • Been nominated as a Top Asian American podcast by FeedSpot — and just received an email from Wharton/U Penn this morning that they'd like to analyze my podcast.

  • Helped my daughter become a top 3 Girl Scout cookie salesperson in her troop.

  • Kept my blood pressure low since being in the ER.

  • Bought a Nespresso machine that makes me feel fancy in the mornings.

I don't operate with the same frenzy as before and in that peace, the results I'm experiencing are more profound.

Here's why:

I've moved into awareness over acceptance.

A lot of spiritual teachings tell you about "acceptance."

In fact, when I was going through my eating disorder recovery journey, I tried the 12-Step Program for compulsive overeating and the Serenity Prayer is a huge part of that:

"Source, grant me the serenity to accept the things I cannot change, the courage to change the things I can, and the wisdom to know the difference."

Now, I'm realizing that "acceptance" has different connotations, which include judgment.

To "accept" something, you make a call that something is good or bad, right or wrong. It's either the positive or negative polarity of a situation. In that, you subscribe to a limitation.

Allowance, though?

Allowance is a place of no judgment — including of yourself.

It's an allowance of all things. When you're in allowance, you become a rock in the stream. Thoughts, ideas, beliefs, attitudes, and emotions come at you, and they go around you. You're the rock. You're part of the flow, yet you don't get caught up in the current.

Try this on for size:

The next time something — anything — happens in your life that causes a little inner friction, say to yourself...

"Hm, that's an interesting point of view that I have that point of view."

Or, if someone else is doing something that's causing you to feel certain feelings, say to yourself...

"Hm, that's an interesting point of view that they have that point of view."

You don't have to accept your own point of view or anyone else's. Instead, you simply allow for it.

Observe how you feel. Do you become more expansive? Or, do you become constricted?

My bet is that you feel more expansive because you invite in more possibilities without judgment. It's a subtle, yet substantial shift.

I have another friend, an expert at taking people through the psychedelic DMT experience (also known as "The Spirit Molecule"), who said to me:

"The Universe is objective. It doesn't think that anything is good or bad — it just is."

At the time, that was very difficult for me to hear, because I had always wanted the Universe to be an unconditionally loving force. To hear that It's objective, that things are what they are — well, I didn't want to agree.

But then, I began to dive into different teachings and learned that the Universe embraces everything. It's rooted in both chaos and balance. It's ever-expanding. It holds EVERYTHING. The good, the bad, the ugly. It does it all without judgment.

Which, ultimately, is unconditional.

If the Universe can hold everything, then allowance means that I can hold that I have been good, bad, and ugly. I don't have to have judgment of it. I can simply know that everything exists.

There's freedom in that.

Asking the right questions has led to deeper peace and clarity. It's allowed me to grow my company without the hustle and grind. And, my clients are experiencing the same big shifts in life and business.

So... for today, are you asking the right questions?

Mahalo,

P.S. If you want to start asking the right questions in your own life and business, feel free to book a complimentary call with me — you'll walk away with the 3 consciousness questions I'm asking every day that are changing everything.

Let's talk about money.

Have you seen that movement on LinkedIn where people are asking one another to be transparent about how much they make within their respective positions?

I like it. I think that for so many of us — especially if you came from communities or generations where money was scarce — we don't talk about money except for the lack of it.

I've been doing a lot of healing work on money, because I understand the depth to which it's tied to my belief in how much I am allowing myself to receive in every aspect of my life:

  • I hired a coach specifically on wealth and prosperity.

  • I began Access Consciousness practices around it.

  • I hired a new bookkeeper and a new financial advisor.

  • I published new podcast episodes around it.

  • I've created healing resources for my clients.

And now, in the second month of the year, I'm on track to generate $55-$60K in the business.

Because so many entrepreneurs struggle with raising rates or having the money conversation, I created this free resource to help you reframe your asking — and receiving.
